Christian Armoury

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle ... against spiritual wickedness - Ephesians 6:11a,12b
It doesn't take a genius to recognize there is a battle going on; not just on the battle field but at work, in our own government, sometimes even in our own homes. And while there is a physical component in much of the struggle, it is a "spiritual" battle with unseen forces and our task is to stand for what is right.

A Roman guard must have walked passed Paul one day when the Holy Spirit said, "That man didn't leave his home naked, he prepared for whatever would come against him. My people need preparation too!"

Eight things are listed as essential armoury and they don't happen by accident but by purposeful intent: 1) Truth; 2) Righteousness; 3) Preparation; 4) Faith; 5) Know-So Salvation; 6) God's Word; 7) Prayer; and 8) Watchful eyes.

Surviving the long haul

"[T]he kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them..." - Jesus (Matthew 25:1-3
Sadly, not every starter of the faith journey finishes. Why? The foolish virgins of this parable were just not prepared for the long haul.

Marathon runners don't just show up on the event day, the successful ones prepare, taking advantage of early opportunities to get ready.

Daniel, of the Bible, didn't start his prayer life in the Lion's den, he was a man of prayer.

When the pressure is off and there is no major crisis is the time to learn to pray, build relationships with the faithful, read the Bible, learn how to hear from God.

Wise virgins act before the immediate need.
